The Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) officially broke the ground on a project to upgrade the Cam Ranh Seaport in the south central province of Khanh Hoa on May 26.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said this is an essential infrastructure work aimed at serving the socio-economic development and the transport of goods in the south central and Central Highland regions.
As part of the countrys plan for seaport system development until 2020, the project will also help ease pressure on Nha Trang port, which will prioritise accommodating international tourist vessels in the future, he added.
The project has a total investment of nearly VND520 billion totally funded by Vinalines.
Once completed after 14 months of construction, the seaports new wharf is capable of receiving 50,000 DWT vessels or 30,000 DWT containers.
