Vietnam Capital City Pulls in US$512M FDI in First Half

Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi is estimated to have attracted a total foreign direct investment (FDI) capital of US$512 million in the first six months of this year, according to the city’s Statistics Department.

Of the sum, US$500 million came from 110 newly-licensed FDI projects and the rest from a capital increase in 10 existing projects, the department said. However, it did not give specific figures in FDI compared to the same period of 2008.   In the six-month phase, the city attracted several big projects, including a US$382-million wastewater treatment plant by Malaysia’s Gamuda Land Group and a US$54-million joint venture between Vietnam Satellite and Digital Television Ltd Company and France.
